
Suspected armed militia members attacked Mbasa community in Utange Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one person and burning several homes. The incident occurred on June 4, leaving residents in shock and displacing families.
According to military sources, troops of Sector 1 and operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards received a distress call at about 8:30 a.m. reporting the assault. Security personnel rushed to the scene, but the attackers had fled before they arrived.
Initial assessment after the attack confirmed one fatality and multiple houses razed by fire. At the scene, security operatives recovered two empty 7.62mm special ammunition shells, indicating firearms were used during the operation.

The victim’s remains were later released to relatives for burial in line with local customs. Military authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
To prevent further incidents, security has been reinforced in the area. Officials say the increased presence aims to restore calm and rebuild confidence among residents of the affected community.
