Several people are feared dead after suspected armed herders ambushed farmers along the Odugbeho, Aila Road in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, locals said on Saturday.
According to report, the victims were returning from their farms when the attackers, who had laid an ambush, opened fire on them.

The exact number of casualties was unclear at press time. At least four bodies have been recovered from the scene. Two of the victims were identified as Joy Simon and Lyta Monet.
Efforts to get official confirmation were unsuccessful. Calls and messages to Benue State Police Public Relations Officer Edet Udeme were not returned. Calls to Agatu Local Government Chairman Melvin Ejeh also went unanswered as of the time of filing this report.
