
The Nigeria Police Force through the Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged killing of two men in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area, following the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect who reportedly confessed to the crime.
According to police updates, the suspect identified as Akaninyine Eretus is currently in custody and assisting investigators over the incident, which occurred on May 24 and May 25, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victims, identified as Okokon and Okon, were allegedly attacked on separate occasions within the community.
One was reportedly killed while asleep, while the second was said to have been attacked with a machete.
The suspect is alleged to have told investigators that the killings were motivated by a desire to avenge the deaths of his parents and two elder brothers, who he claimed died during a communal crisis in the area nearly three decades ago.

However, the police emphasized that these statements remain allegations and have not been independently verified.
Authorities noted that a full investigation is ongoing to establish the facts surrounding the case.
The command further confirmed that the bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited in a hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Police spokesperson ASP Eitokpah Sunday stated that detectives are working to confirm the circumstances of the incident while urging residents to avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten tension in the community.
The command assured that further updates will be provided as investigations continue, as security has been reinforced in Creek Town to maintain calm and prevent possible reprisals.
