Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have arrested three suspects for alleged involvement in motorcycle theft and the sale of stolen bikes across the state.
The arrests were made by the Command’s Strike Force Unit on May 23 at about 10:00 a.m., following a tip-off from a resident. According to police spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, intelligence linked the suspects to criminal activities in several areas of Sokoto.
Acting on the information, officers conducted coordinated raids at Kano Road, Runjin Sambo, Gidan Dare, and Gidan Man Ada. One of those arrested was identified as Yahuza Abubakar of Darna Village in Wamakko Local Government Area.

During interrogation, Abubakar confessed to stealing a red Kasea motorcycle and selling it to an accomplice. The confession led detectives to Alhaji Samaila Aliyu of Gidan Igwai, who was arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen bike. Police also recovered an ash-coloured Haojue motorcycle from Aliyu.
Further investigation revealed that the red Kasea motorcycle had been sold to Ahmed Abdullahi of the Gawon Nama area. Abdullahi was subsequently arrested and the motorcycle recovered. Other exhibits recovered include two master keys suspected to have been used in the theft operations.
Rufa’i said investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects are linked to other motorcycle theft syndicates in the state. All suspects remain in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
