Security operatives in Sokoto State have successfully repelled coordinated bandit attacks and recovered a significant cache of ammunition in a series of operations aimed at curbing insecurity in the region.
The Sokoto State Police Command disclosed these developments through the Commissioner of Police, Hassan Shaffa, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters on Friday.
According to Shaffa, a joint security team comprising police officers, military personnel, and local vigilantes foiled an attempted attack on Kwarangamba and Gaya villages in Sabon Birni Local Government Area on April 8. The operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat with injuries.
During the operation, security forces recovered a sack containing 167 rounds of live ammunition, which had been abandoned by the fleeing attackers.
In a separate operation on April 15, coordinated raids were carried out across Tambuwal, Kware, and Goronyo local government areas, leading to the arrest of three suspected criminals.

Recovered items included locally fabricated firearms, an AK-47 magazine, military camouflage, and substances suspected to be cannabis.
The police also confirmed the arrest of a suspected informant and logistics supplier, identified as Aminu Meroba.
He was intercepted along the Tangaza axis in possession of four cows believed to have been rustled by a terrorist group. The suspect reportedly confessed to intending to sell the livestock and return the proceeds to the group.
Addressing concerns about rising insecurity in parts of the state, particularly Achida and surrounding communities, Shaffa acknowledged logistical challenges such as inadequate vehicles and manpower but assured residents that the situation was being addressed.
He noted that additional tactical teams had been deployed to vulnerable areas, with intensified intelligence gathering and collaboration with the state government and other security agencies.
“The Command remains committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of all residents,” he said, urging the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies.
