Pep Guardiola warned his Manchester City squad not to copy the on-pitch attitude of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, using the Portugal midfielder as an example of what he would not accept at the Etihad.
According to The Athletic, the warning came after City’s 3-0 derby win over United in September. Guardiola showed his players clips from the game to highlight the behavior he wanted to avoid.
The incident in question occurred when Fernandes reacted angrily to his teammates during Phil Foden’s opening goal, openly berating them while City celebrated. Guardiola told his squad that while Fernandes is a top player, displaying that kind of negative attitude toward teammates would not be tolerated at City.

Guardiola reportedly focused less on praising his own players’ performance and more on using the moment to reinforce team standards. He wanted to make it clear that unity and professionalism were non-negotiable.
The 55-year-old left Manchester City at the end of the season, closing his tenure after Fernandes had broken the Premier League assists record.
