A warrant officer of the Nigerian Navy, identified as WO Yusuf M.O., has reportedly died after an alleged punitive action ordered by a superior officer at a naval medical facility in Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Nigerian Navy Sick Bay situated in Gowon Estate, Ipaja, within Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.
According to sources familiar with the development, the officer was absent from duty on May 19, 2026, but returned to work the following day. Upon resuming duty, she was allegedly confronted by her immediate superior, identified as Lt. Commander S.T. Abashim, over her absence.

Sources claimed that WO Yusuf explained she had been experiencing health complications and needed medical attention as well as further checks to manage her condition.
However, her explanation was reportedly dismissed, with the superior officer allegedly directing her to carry out fatigue duties under harsh weather conditions as punishment.
Witnesses alleged that while carrying out the assignment under the scorching sun, the officer began to experience dizziness, blurred vision and signs of physical exhaustion.
According to accounts from sources, instead of receiving urgent medical treatment, she was allegedly placed in isolation inside one of the wards within the sick bay facility without immediate care.
She was said to have remained in that condition for about an hour before she later died.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Navy had yet to officially confirm the incident, while the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death remained unclear.
Efforts to obtain comments from naval authorities were unsuccessful.
