Former Newcastle United midfielder Chris Waddle has told new Manchester United manager Michael Carrick to cut ties with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as part of a major squad overhaul this summer.
Carrick is preparing for his first transfer window since being appointed on a two-year contract as United’s permanent manager. Speaking to BoyleSports, Waddle said the club must trim its wage bill and move on several players to give Carrick room to reshape the squad.
“Looking at Manchester United, Casemiro is going, they have got to get rid of Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund has to be moved on,” Waddle said.

He added that United need to offload another five or six players beyond those names to create space for signings that fit Carrick’s plans.
The advice comes as Carrick begins work on rebuilding a side that has struggled for consistency in recent seasons. With the transfer window now open, United’s decisions on outgoings could define the manager’s first year in charge.
