
Residents of Owerri, Imo State, have been thrown into mourning following the death of a 13-year-old student, Ifeanyi Matthew Ebere, who was reportedly struck by lightning during a heavy rainstorm.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening after the teenager, said to be a Junior Secondary School 1 student of Emanda College, Owerri, went to his school premises with friends to watch a football match.

Eyewitnesses said rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms suddenly began, forcing the boys to run into a classroom for shelter. Moments later, lightning reportedly struck the building and hit the teenager.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by doctors.
The tragic incident has left family members, schoolmates, and residents of the community in mourning.
