The Abia State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping, following the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, the rescue of a victim, and the recovery of ₦830,000 ransom.
In a statement released on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the suspect was identified as 42-year-old Ibrahim Audu, while the rescued victim, Onyebuchi Nwaoha, 46, is a resident of Old Umuahia.
According to the statement, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) acted on credible intelligence and stormed the Ogwashi Forest in Old Umuahia, believed to be a hideout for kidnapping syndicates.
During the operation, the police team encountered resistance from the kidnappers. However, the suspects reportedly fled after being overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives.
“The suspect was apprehended at the scene, while the victim was successfully rescued. Additionally, the sum of ₦830,000, which had been collected as ransom from the victim’s family, was recovered,” the statement noted.

The Police Command further disclosed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, emphasized the importance of community collaboration in combating crime.
He urged residents to provide timely and useful information to security agencies to enhance proactive policing.
The successful operation highlights the continued efforts of security forces in curbing criminal activities and restoring public confidence in Abia State.
