Abia Police Dismiss Rumours of Mass Boko Haram Arrest -

The Abia State Police Command has refuted widespread claims circulating on social media alleging that 488 members of Boko Haram were recently arrested in the state, describing the report as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, clarified that the video accompanying the viral claim is outdated, having been recorded over 11 years ago, and bears no connection to the current security situation in Abia State.

The command stressed that the misinformation appears to be a deliberate attempt to incite fear and create unnecessary panic among residents.

Reassuring the public, the police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, urging citizens to continue their daily activities without fear.

“As the lead internal security agency, the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property,” the statement noted, while encouraging residents to disregard the false report.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, also warned against the spread of unverified information, stating that such actions could threaten public peace and stability.

He further cautioned that individuals found responsible for spreading false information would face legal consequences in accordance with the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime Act.

The police therefore called on residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in preserving peace by rejecting misinformation.
