
Troops of the Joint Task Force in the North-East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully rescued six abducted civilians, neutralised terrorists, and apprehended a suspected collaborator during sustained clearance operations across Borno and Yobe States.
According to military sources, the coordinated operations were carried out under Operation DESERT SANITY, targeting known terrorist movement corridors based on credible intelligence.
In a major breakthrough along the Mandara Mountains axis on May 14, 2026, troops intercepted insurgents and rescued six captives comprising women and children who had been held by Boko Haram/ISWAP elements along the Amuda–Gava corridor in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescued victims, identified as Amina Salihu (52), Aishatu Musa (50), twin sisters Hassana and Hussaina Abubakar (9), Adamu Zakariyya (12), and Usman Zakariyya (10), are all residents of Ngoshe community.
They were immediately placed under military care, where they received medical attention before being safely reunited with their families through the support of community leaders and religious authorities.
Military officials revealed that the latest operation brings the total number of rescued victims from the Ngoshe axis to about 60 women and children since March 2026.

In a separate operation in Konduga Local Government Area, troops engaged insurgents in an offensive, neutralising two terrorists and recovering food supplies believed to be meant for sustaining fighters. No casualties were recorded among the troops.
Meanwhile, in Yobe State, security operatives at a checkpoint in Mainé arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator identified as Ibrahim Alhaji Julo.
He was reportedly involved in transporting logistics for insurgents and aiding illegal taxation activities within affected communities. A vehicle and communication device were recovered from him.
The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
The military high command commended the troops for their resilience and operational success, reiterating its commitment to intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace in the North-East.
Authorities also reaffirmed their determination to secure the safe return of all individuals still held captive by insurgents.
