Comedian AY Makun has shared a moving account of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo’s final moments after the actor died in a Lagos hospital on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Alex Ekubo passed away from complications following a long battle with stage four liver cancer. He was first diagnosed in 2024 and had undergone a transplant, but his liver failed again earlier this year. He died hours after being placed on life support.

In an Instagram post, AY, who was present at the hospital, said Alex died with a smile on his face. “I was there. I saw you still smiling even in death. I saw the tears from friends and family. And honestly, a part of me is still in shock. Rest well my brother. You will be remembered beyond the lights, the cameras, and the fame,” he wrote.
The actor’s friend, Godwin Nnadiekwe, also revealed that Alex had prepared his will before his death, calling it a heartbreak he could not describe.
