The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Samuel Ogochukwu, for allegedly recruiting a 14-year-old boy to deliver suspected illicit drugs to a customer.
The arrest followed the interception of the minor by operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) during a routine patrol on Monday.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the teenager was intercepted at about 11 a.m. while allegedly carrying a small quantity of a granular whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, for delivery to a customer.
During interrogation, the boy reportedly told investigators that Ogochukwu had instructed him to deliver the substance.
Following the disclosure, police detectives traced and arrested the suspect at his location.
A subsequent search of his shop and residence reportedly led to the recovery of 3.5 grammes of suspected methamphetamine, 17 sachets of 100mg tramadol capsules, five sachets of 300mg pregabalin capsules and seven sachets of diazepam.
Other substances recovered included 12 Exol tablets, two wraps of a substance known as “Yellow Boys” and one sachet of “Shine Shine Leather”.
