The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has dismantled a sophisticated, technology-driven examination fraud syndicate during the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Delta State.
The operation, which followed intelligence-led investigations, exposed attempts by criminal elements to compromise the integrity of the examination through advanced digital methods, including unauthorized remote access to candidates’ computer systems.
The incident was traced to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre at the College of Education, Warri, where the illegal activity was detected during the examination process.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, police operatives acted on credible intelligence and digital forensic evidence to carry out coordinated raids, leading to the arrest of three suspects directly linked to the fraud network.
The suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with authorities as investigations continue to uncover the full scope of the syndicate.

Further findings revealed that other examination centres may be involved in similar malpractice, raising concerns about a wider network of tech-enabled exam fraud across the region.
In response, JAMB has withdrawn results from the affected centres pending the conclusion of investigations.
However, the examination body assured that innocent candidates will not be disadvantaged, as arrangements are underway for them to participate in a mop-up examination.
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to candidates, CBT operators, and collaborators to desist from engaging in any form of examination malpractice or cyber-related fraud, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the credibility of Nigeria’s educational system.
Authorities also emphasized that all individuals found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
