Popular Nigerian skitmaker and satirist, Kevin Chinedu, known for his “Governor Amuneke” character, has explained why he declined an offer to serve as a youth ambassador for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a video shared on his X handle, Chinedu said he was initially excited when he received information through social media that he had been considered for the role.
He described the development as a proud moment in his career, saying it felt like recognition for his growth as a content creator.
According to him, the proposed role was expected to involve engaging young Nigerians on civic participation, including voter registration and encouraging involvement in elections.
However, he said his enthusiasm changed after he sought clarification on whether accepting the position would affect the nature of his content, which is largely based on political satire and social commentary.

Chinedu explained that he specifically asked whether he would still be able to openly criticise INEC while serving as an ambassador. He said he was informed that although he could continue promoting civic awareness and voter education, direct criticism of the electoral body would not be allowed.
He noted that this condition conflicted with the foundation of his work, which he said is rooted in holding public institutions accountable and reflecting the concerns of ordinary citizens.
The skitmaker said he eventually decided to turn down the offer, adding that accepting such restrictions would compromise his creative independence and the message behind his platform.
He also encouraged other content creators not to sacrifice their voices for recognition or official titles, stressing that influence should be used responsibly and without censorship.
While rejecting the appointment, Chinedu expressed appreciation for the recognition, saying he remains open to collaborations with institutions and brands, provided they do not limit his freedom of expression.
He further referenced past situations where he allegedly declined financial offers from political figures, maintaining that his priority is to preserve the independence of his content.
