A Canada-based Nigerian medical practitioner, Arinze Onwumelu, has called for an urgent MRI test for popular singer Portable after his intense celebrity boxing clash with skit maker Carter Efe.
The bout, held over the weekend in Lagos, attracted significant public attention, with fans and celebrities closely following the action. Portable, known for his energetic personality, was eventually defeated after a series of heavy exchanges during the match.
Reacting to viral videos from the fight, Onwumelu popularly known as Dr Zo expressed concern over the level of impact from punches directed at Portable’s head.

In a video posted online, he advised that the singer undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to detect any possible internal injuries that may not be immediately visible.
According to the doctor, repeated blows to the head could expose the artist to serious medical conditions such as subdural haematoma, a potentially life-threatening brain injury if left untreated.
He stressed that while celebrity boxing is intended for entertainment, the intensity displayed during the match raised questions about participant safety and proper precautions.
Onwumelu further urged organisers of such events to implement stricter safety measures, including the use of protective headgear, to minimise the risk of head trauma.
Prior to the fight, Portable had expressed confidence in his physical readiness, citing his past participation in similar bouts. However, the outcome of the match against Carter Efe has sparked renewed discussions about safety standards in celebrity boxing events.
