A shocking incident in eastern India has drawn widespread attention after an elderly man reportedly exhumed his late sister’s remains in an attempt to access money from her bank account.
The incident occurred in the Malipasi area of Keonjhar district in Odisha, where the man, identified as Jitu Munda of Dianali village, visited a local bank branch to withdraw funds belonging to his deceased sister, Kalara Munda, who reportedly died in January.
According to reports, bank officials requested proper documentation before releasing the money. Frustrated by repeated delays and what he claimed was a lack of clear guidance, the man took the extreme step of digging up his sister’s grave and bringing her skeletal remains to the bank as proof of her death.

The unusual act left bank staff and customers in shock, prompting authorities to alert the police. Officers later arrived at the scene to restore order and assess the situation.
A police official said the man appeared to have little understanding of banking procedures, adding that communication gaps and lack of awareness contributed to the incident.
Following intervention by law enforcement, bank officials assured that the matter would be resolved through proper legal channels, including assistance in obtaining the required heirship documentation.
The remains were later returned for reburial, while authorities pledged to support the man in completing the necessary processes to access the funds legally.
