The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old woman, Ese Betty Isiorho, for allegedly trafficking young women to Côte d’Ivoire under the guise of offering them vocational training opportunities.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Effurun Area Command following a petition accusing her of deception and human trafficking.
Investigations revealed that the suspect lured a 25-year-old victim with promises of learning hairdressing abroad. However, upon arrival in Côte d’Ivoire, the victim was reportedly forced into prostitution.
The police disclosed that the suspect confessed to trafficking the rescued victim alongside another young woman, both of whom were allegedly handed over to an accomplice identified simply as “Madam Purity” for exploitation.

Authorities confirmed that the rescued victim has been safely returned to Nigeria, reunited with her family, and is currently receiving medical care. Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the second victim, who is believed to still be in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating human trafficking and dismantling criminal syndicates.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment schemes, especially those involving promises of jobs or training abroad.
This development comes amid renewed efforts by the Delta State Government and anti-trafficking agencies to tackle the rising cases of human trafficking, particularly schemes that exploit vulnerable individuals through false opportunities.
