
The Benue State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ben Agir, who was allegedly mobbed to death by a vigilante group over claims that he stole a motorcycle.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night at Major Settlement, near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, between 11pm and midnight.
The victim was accused of stealing a motorcycle before being attacked by a group of hoodlums.
According to police spokesperson DSP Edet Udeme, preliminary investigations revealed that Agir was beaten to death without any proper inquiry into the allegation against him.

She added that further checks showed the deceased was actually the rightful owner of the motorcycle, based on available documentation.
The Chairman of Buruku LGA, Raymond Aondoakura, confirmed the incident and announced the suspension of all vigilante activities in the area pending the outcome of investigations.
Police authorities said two suspects, identified as Terkimbi Abumswende and Joshua Adagim, have been arrested in connection with the killing, while another suspect remains at large.
The command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and that all those involved will be brought to justice after a thorough investigation.
