The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a pump-action rifle alongside a stolen motorcycle in Owerri, the state capital.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye.
According to the statement, operatives of the New Owerri Divisional Headquarters acted on credible intelligence to apprehend the suspects, identified as 25-year-old Sohnani Bitrus and 25-year-old Burfa Selkap, on April 3.
Both suspects are said to be natives of Langtang Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly carried out a gunpoint robbery at about 4:00 a.m., targeting a resident identified as Joel Andrew.

The attackers reportedly threatened the victim with a firearm before making away with his red Daylong motorcycle bearing registration number NWA765QT. The stolen motorcycle has since been recovered by the police.
Further interrogation led operatives to the suspects’ hideout in Okwu-Uratta, located in Owerri North Local Government Area, where a pump-action rifle and a machete were also recovered.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and efforts to track down other members of the gang.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, the Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, assured residents of adequate security measures before, during, and after the Easter celebrations.
He also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies through the nearest police station or designated emergency lines.
