The Nigerian Army has recovered the suspected remains of a soldier couple killed in 2022 while traveling for their traditional wedding, following a successful operation in Imo State.
Troops of the 82 Division, acting on credible intelligence, launched a clearance mission on April 24, 2026, along the Ubaha–Orsu axis in Orsu Local Government Area, targeting a hideout linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
During the operation, troops encountered heavy resistance and engaged the armed group in a fierce exchange, successfully repelling multiple ambushes and forcing the attackers to flee.

A subsequent search of the camp led to the discovery of shallow graves believed to contain the remains of Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew, who were abducted and murdered in May 2022.
The Army said the remains have been secured for forensic analysis, including DNA testing, to confirm their identities, while efforts are ongoing to liaise with their families for proper identification and burial.
It added that the operation underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the South-East and ensure justice for fallen personnel, assuring the public that operations will continue until peace is fully restored.
