Four persons have lost their lives in a late-night road crash along the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway in Ogun State.
The fatal accident, which occurred around 11:16 p.m. on Monday, involved a white Toyota Hiace bus and a MAN Diesel truck owned by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
The Ogun State spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to her, the crash happened when the speeding bus rammed into the stationary truck, leading to the instant death of all occupants of the bus.
“A white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDJ 482 XC collided with a blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number RSH 969 XC belonging to Julius Berger. The incident occurred at the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway,” she stated.
“Regrettably, all four occupants of the bus two male adults and two female adults sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene. No survivors were recorded.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck had been under tow before the accident occurred. However, the towing chain reportedly snapped, leaving the vehicle stranded on the highway.
The FRSC spokesperson further disclosed that the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene immediately after the incident, abandoning the truck.
