A suspected bandit leader has admitted that members of his group lack formal education but are proficient in handling weapons, especially AK-47 rifles.
The statement appeared in a video shared Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X. The footage shows the armed leader addressing a crowd in Dutsenma Local Government Area of Katsina State, surrounded by followers who cheered as he spoke.
In his remarks, the leader said that although his group did not receive formal schooling, they had developed expertise in using firearms. He contrasted their situation with that of educated individuals, claiming that while others accumulate books, his group has focused on weapons as their “education.”

He also accused authorities of failing to honor agreements reached during previous negotiations. According to him, his group makes efforts to keep its promises and expects the same in return.
The leader further alleged that many of his members remain detained in states such as Katsina, Kano, and Abuja despite discussions that were meant to secure their release. He claimed that government representatives often engage them in dialogue but do not follow through on agreed terms.
Warning of possible consequences, he said the group could withdraw from talks and retreat into the forest if the situation continues. However, he maintained that they are still open to future negotiations, provided that prior agreements are respected and detained members are released.
