The 90-year-old father of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, has reportedly been abducted from his residence in Edo State.
Family sources said armed men, who identified themselves as officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Edo State Security Network, took Pa Joseph Iduoriyekemwen away at about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
His whereabouts remained unknown as of the time of the report.
Matthew confirmed the incident, saying his family members were not allowed to speak with his father before he was taken away.
The development has sparked concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident, with some allegations linking it to the political activities of the ADC candidate.

However, the Edo State Government denied any involvement and condemned suggestions that it may have orchestrated the reported abduction.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, described the allegations as premature, stressing that there was insufficient information to establish the motive behind the incident.
Afegbua said Governor Monday Okpebholo had directed security agencies to work together to secure Pa Joseph’s release and return him safely to his family.
The Edo State Police Command also indicated that it would issue an official statement on the matter.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
