
A 25-year-old herder identified as Safiyanu Abubakar has been killed by suspected cattle rustlers in Gora village, Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9:30 a.m. on October 1 while Abubakar was grazing his cattle in the area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, quoting security sources, said troops of Sector 1, Sub-Sector 12, Operation Enduring Peace, responded to a distress call and found the herder dead from gunshot wounds.
The troops also discovered that one cow had been killed, while another sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
The suspected attackers had reportedly fled before security personnel arrived at the scene.
Abubakar’s remains and the affected cattle were later evacuated and handed over to his family.

Security sources said intelligence-gathering efforts had been activated to identify and track down those responsible for the attack.
Troops were also engaging Fulani leaders in Jos East Local Government Area to calm tensions and prevent possible reprisal attacks.
Security agencies urged residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and provide credible information that could assist the investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the attack and the identities of the suspected perpetrators remain under investigation.
