A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, has claimed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Makarfi made the statement while speaking to journalists on Tuesday after court-related proceedings involving El-Rufai. He said political arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections have already begun and suggested that El-Rufai is part of the race.

According to him, Nigeria’s current president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to complete his tenure in 2027, after which leadership would change hands.
He further hinted that El-Rufai’s political camp has already started mobilising support ahead of the election, although no official declaration has been made by the former governor himself.
El-Rufai has recently been linked with legal and political controversies, including reports of investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged misconduct during his time in office.
The comments have sparked fresh political discussions as attention gradually shifts toward the 2027 general elections.
