France have failed in their bid to overturn Michael Olise’s controversial yellow card after FIFA rejected the team’s appeal ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals.
Head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that the booking issued to the Bayern Munich winger during France’s Round of 16 victory over Paraguay will remain on his disciplinary record, despite the French Football Federation’s attempt to have it rescinded.
Olise was cautioned in the closing stages of the heated encounter following an altercation with Paraguay’s Matias Galarza. Replays suggested there was little or no contact between the two players after Olise made a gesture by placing his finger to his lips, while Galarza fell to the ground claiming he had been struck.

With FIFA refusing to overturn the decision, Olise now heads into France’s quarter-final clash against Morocco knowing another yellow card would trigger a one-match suspension, ruling him out of a potential semi-final against either Spain or Belgium if France advance.
France also have Bradley Barcola and Manu Koné facing the same disciplinary threat after both picked up yellow cards in the victory over Paraguay.
Meanwhile, Deschamps offered a positive update on midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, who missed the last-16 tie because of a thigh injury. The France manager revealed the midfielder has resumed his recovery and could return to training, although a final decision on his availability for the Morocco encounter will be made after further assessment.
France will now focus on their quarter-final showdown, hoping to keep their World Cup dream alive while avoiding further suspensions among key players.
