The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, popularly known as the Lagos Task Force, has impounded 66 commercial motorcycles, commonly called okadas, during an enforcement operation on Lagos Island.
The operation was carried out on Monday as part of efforts to curb illegal commercial motorcycle activities and enforce the state’s transport regulations.
The Task Force Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, disclosed the development in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, on Tuesday.
According to Akerele, the enforcement team carried out operations around several locations, including CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, the Lekki-Ajah Expressway and the Lagos Coastal Road.

He explained that the affected motorcycle operators were allegedly using routes restricted to commercial motorcycles, creating traffic-related challenges and posing concerns for other road users.
“During the operation, 66 commercial motorcycles were impounded, while normalcy was restored in the affected areas,” the statement said.
The chairman added that the Task Force had intensified intelligence gathering and tactical operations to prevent illegal okada activities on restricted highways, bridges and other prohibited routes across Lagos.
Akerele warned that future enforcement operations would also extend to passengers who violate the state’s transport regulations.
He further stated that the impounded motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
The Task Force said it would continue its enforcement activities until compliance with the state’s transport regulations is achieved.
