The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old Field Loan Officer of Moniepoint, Thlakham Daniel, over an alleged ₦74 million fraud involving seven Point-of-Sale (POS) operators in Damaturu, the state capital.
The arrest was disclosed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Ali, in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the police, the seven POS operators separately reported the matter after the suspect allegedly visited their businesses on different occasions, claiming he could assist them in obtaining loans.
The operators reportedly allowed the suspect to profile their accounts for the purported loan applications. They later alleged that loans were obtained through their accounts without their knowledge or authorisation.
Following the complaints, detectives at the ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters in Damaturu commenced investigations and traced the suspect.
The police said Daniel was subsequently arrested alongside a vehicle allegedly purchased with proceeds from the suspected fraudulent transactions.
Preliminary findings by investigators reportedly indicated that about ₦74 million was involved in the transactions.

The command added that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation, while investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and determine whether other individuals participated in the alleged fraud.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, urged residents to exercise caution when granting others access to their bank accounts and digital financial platforms.
He also advised members of the public to report suspicious transactions promptly to the police to prevent financial crimes and protect their accounts.
