Troops operating under Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 23 people held captive by terrorists and prevented another attempted abduction in Zamfara State.
The operations were conducted in Anka and Bungudu Local Government Areas of the state as security forces intensified efforts to curb terrorist and bandit activities in affected communities.
The Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed the development in a statement.
According to him, troops on combat patrol around Wuya Town in Anka LGA encountered terrorists during the operation and succeeded in rescuing 23 kidnapped persons.
The victims comprised three adult males and 20 females. Preliminary investigations indicated that they had been abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and kept in captivity for approximately three weeks.
Danja said the rescued victims were receiving medical attention and other necessary assistance before being reunited with their families.
In a separate operation in Bungudu LGA, troops responded to intelligence that armed bandits had invaded Dankurmi Town with plans to abduct residents.
Security personnel swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

The troops eventually overwhelmed the bandits, forcing them to retreat without succeeding in abducting any resident.
Bloodstains found along the attackers’ escape route suggested that some of the terrorists may have sustained serious gunshot injuries during the encounter.
The military said troops remain deployed across the affected areas and are continuing operations to track fleeing terrorists while strengthening security around communities and major routes in the state.
