The Lagos State Police Command has released N89.2 million in welfare and insurance benefits to the families and next of kin of 157 police officers who died while serving under the command.
The cheques, valued at N89,201,523.07, were presented by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, during a ceremony held at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Friday.
The financial support was provided through welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force to assist families of officers who lost their lives in the course of service.
Fatai expressed sympathy to the beneficiaries, noting that the financial assistance could not replace the lives of the deceased officers but would help support the families they left behind.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly, particularly towards the welfare and education of children and other dependants of the deceased personnel.
The commissioner also assured serving officers that the welfare of police personnel and their families remained a priority.
He further pledged that the command would continue to facilitate the prompt processing of legitimate welfare and insurance claims for families of officers who die in service.
The Lagos State Police Command also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for supporting the welfare initiative and expressed continued solidarity with the affected families.
