Two people were injured after suspected gunmen disrupted a grassroots meeting of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident happened on Saturday at Ndiuno-Obuoffia community, where members and supporters of the party had gathered for a ward meeting.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed that armed hoodlums stormed the gathering and fired sporadically, causing two attendees to sustain injuries.
The police said its operatives were quickly deployed to the area after receiving information about the incident and began efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
A separate incident was also reported at St. Joseph Primary School in Agbani, where hoodlums allegedly destroyed canopies and chairs prepared for a Peoples Democratic Party rally.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation into both incidents and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

The police noted that organisers of the two political gatherings did not notify the command beforehand or request security personnel for the events.
Giwa warned political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders against violence, intimidation, destruction of property and other actions capable of disrupting public peace or the electoral process.
He urged political groups to inform the police before holding campaigns, meetings, rallies and other gatherings so that adequate security arrangements could be made.
The commissioner also assured residents that the command would continue to provide security for lawful political activities across the state while taking decisive action against anyone found violating the law.
