The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the killing of three members of the same family whose bodies were found buried in a shallow grave in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area. The suspects, Emmanuel Nnakezie, 33, and Clement Nnaekezie, 69, allegedly murdered the victims following a dispute over the ownership of a bitter kola tree and other inherited land.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, apprehended the suspects on May 3, 2026, after a painstaking investigation into the sudden disappearance of the family. The suspects were traced and arrested in separate locations in Oba, Idemili South LGA, and Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA.

During interrogation, both men confessed to the crime and led police to the burial site where the bodies were exhumed. The victims have been identified as 67-year-old Robert Nnakezie, 14-year-old Ikechukwu Obi, and two-year-old Ukamaka Efione, who was reportedly visiting relatives for the school holidays.
Ikenga said the remains have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy as investigations continue. He noted that preliminary findings point to the land dispute as the motive behind the killings. The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act as barbaric and unacceptable, assuring that the command is committed to ensuring justice is served.
