Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have dismantled suspected strongholds linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, August 22, involved the task force’s Maritime Component, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Anambra Vigilante Group.
According to the task force, the security agencies carried out a coordinated dawn raid on suspected hideouts in Obene and Abator villages, within the Ochuche and Umunankwo communities.
The troops reportedly came under fire after arriving at the locations, prompting them to respond and pursue the fleeing suspects into the surrounding terrain.

The task force said one suspected member was neutralised during the operation, while other members reportedly escaped, taking the body of another casualty with them.
Following the assault, the troops searched the abandoned camps and recovered two pump-action guns, two motorcycles, improvised explosive device (IED)-making materials and other items.
The operation, according to the task force, has disrupted the group’s activities in the area and denied the suspected members the use of the locations as bases for further attacks.
Security agencies are expected to sustain operations in the area as efforts continue to dismantle criminal and militant networks operating across the South-East.
