Three Women Killed as Vehicle Plunges from Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Bridge -

Three women have been confirmed dead while 10 others sustained injuries after a vehicle plunged from the Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash occurred at about 5:24pm on Friday near Mikano on the Long Bridge, inward Lagos, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).

TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said three vehicles were involved in the accident: a white Toyota bus, a Toyota Corolla and a white Mazda bus.

A total of 16 people were involved in the crash, comprising 12 males and four females. Ten people, including nine males and one female, sustained varying degrees of injuries, while three female adults died.

Preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses indicated that excessive speeding and loss of control caused one of the vehicles to somersault and plunge into a ditch beneath the bridge.

Emergency responders, including TRACE officials, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the police and the Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Service, rushed to the scene to evacuate victims.

Six injured passengers were reportedly taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Service, while another injured victim and a presumed dead victim were conveyed by an FRSC ambulance.

Two of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital, Ifo, morgue, while another presumed dead victim was taken to the Idera Hospital morgue in Sagamu.

Other injured victims were transported to A.Z. Hospital for medical attention.

The vehicle that fell into the ditch was later recovered and moved to Warewa Police Station alongside the other vehicles involved in the crash for further investigation.

The accident temporarily disrupted traffic along the expressway during the rescue and evacuation operation, but traffic flow was later restored.

Authorities have continued to urge motorists to avoid excessive speeding and exercise caution, particularly on busy highways, to prevent avoidable road crashes.
