
One person has died and another sustained serious injuries after a petrol tanker overturned and burst into flames opposite the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat in Cross River State.
The incident occurred on Saturday, October 4, 2026, when the tanker, which was carrying petroleum products, was involved in a road accident and overturned. The resulting fire reportedly spread to nearby shops and buildings.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers from the Odukpani Division were deployed to secure the area and protect residents and motorists.

The tanker driver was rescued from the scene and taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Emergency responders were also alerted to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
The police later confirmed that one person had died in the inferno, while another victim was seriously injured and remains under medical care.
Authorities have urged members of the public to stay away from the affected area and allow emergency responders unhindered access while efforts continue to manage the situation.
