The Nigerian Senate has confirmed economist Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The announcement was made on March 11, 2026.
His confirmation was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after lawmakers approved his nomination through a voice vote during plenary on Wednesday.
Oyedele will take over the position previously held by Doris Uzoka-Anite.
Before his approval, the economist faced a rigorous screening session that lasted more than two hours, during which senators questioned him on his experience and plans to address Nigeria’s fiscal challenges.

Speaking during the session, Oyedele described his nomination as a call to serve the country at a critical time. He emphasized that his career, spanning more than two decades, has involved working with governments, multinational organisations, and global corporations on fiscal governance and economic reforms.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the confidence placed in him and thanked the Senate for the opportunity to share his vision for improving Nigeria’s financial system.
Prior to the appointment, Oyedele served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he played a leading role in developing and implementing Nigeria’s new tax reform framework aimed at strengthening revenue generation and improving fiscal stability.
