MACBAN Raises Alarm Over Killings, Cattle Rustling in Benue, Calls for Urgent Security Action -

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State chapter, has strongly condemned the ongoing wave of killings, attacks, and cattle rustling in the Benue South Senatorial District, describing the situation as criminality rather than a farmer-herder conflict.

In a statement issued by the association’s Secretary, Ibrahim Galma, MACBAN expressed deep concern over what it called a coordinated pattern of violence affecting communities in the region.

According to the group, criminal elements are taking advantage of the fragile security situation to carry out acts of murder, arson, cattle theft, and the displacement of innocent residents.

The association highlighted repeated attacks in Otukpo and Ohimini Local Government Areas, which it said have resulted in loss of lives, destruction of Fulani settlements, and widespread displacement.

It specifically referenced the killing of its leader, Ardo Risku Muhammad, alongside his associate, Yakubu Isah, on June 26, as well as a recent attack on Efeyi community on July 28.

MACBAN further alleged that several Fulani settlements in affected parts of Otukpo have been completely razed, accusing a criminal gang of orchestrating the violence.

In response, the group called on the Benue State Government, security agencies, and traditional rulers to take immediate action.

It recommended the establishment of a joint peace and security committee involving host communities and Fulani stakeholders, increased security presence in vulnerable areas, and the convening of an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to restore peace.

Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, MACBAN urged its members to remain law-abiding and pursue justice through legal channels while authorities work to address the crisis.

The situation continues to raise concerns about security challenges in Benue State and the urgent need for collaborative efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region.
