The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has suspended the movement of cattle to the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State following a series of attacks on herders and vehicles conveying cattle.
The suspension took effect on October 6 and will remain in place until October 20, 2026, according to the Plateau State chapter of MACBAN.
The decision followed a recent attack in which gunmen reportedly opened fire on herders returning to Bassa from the market, killing two people and injuring eight others.
The incident came less than three weeks after another attack on September 20 in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where five people were reportedly killed and one person injured.

Following the attacks, Fulani leaders, including local government chairmen, Ardos and cattle owners, met in Jos to discuss the security situation.
In a communique signed by the Plateau MACBAN chairman, Ibrahim Yousuf Babayo, the association said the suspension was intended to honour those who lost their lives and reduce the risk of further attacks.
MACBAN urged security agencies to investigate the incidents, apprehend and prosecute those responsible, and strengthen security along the affected routes.
The association also appealed for the protection of all citizens regardless of ethnic background, while urging its members to remain calm, exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
MACBAN reaffirmed its commitment to peace and cooperation with security agencies in Plateau State.
