
Tension has gripped Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, following an alleged invasion of student hostels by some soldiers reportedly attached to the Army Depot in Osogbo.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday evening when the soldiers stormed the university’s halls of residence, assaulting several students and confiscating over 60 mobile phones and other personal belongings.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that both male and female students were subjected to varying degrees of harassment.
Some students alleged that they were physically assaulted, while others claimed their phones and gadgets were forcefully taken.
Unverified reports also suggested that some female students were subjected to degrading treatment during the incident.
However, university authorities have stated that certain serious allegations remain under investigation and have not been officially confirmed.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Clement Adebooye, visited the affected hostels and described the situation as deeply disturbing.
He noted that the matter has been formally reported to the management of the Army Depot.
“It is unfortunate that a facility we considered a source of security has become associated with such an incident. We have escalated the matter to the appropriate authorities,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
Further updates from the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, revealed that more than 20 students have been identified as victims, with at least two requiring medical attention.
He added that some of the soldiers allegedly involved have been identified, and discussions are ongoing between the university management and military authorities to ensure accountability.
As investigations continue, students and stakeholders are calling for justice and improved safety measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
