
Security operatives have successfully rescued a 70-year-old farmer, Pa Jonah Owobu, who was abducted in Uromi, Edo State.
The victim was reported missing on April 21, 2026, after he failed to return home from his farm.
His wife subsequently alerted the police, sparking immediate concern and prompting a swift response from security agencies.
Shortly after the report, the family received calls from suspected kidnappers demanding a ransom of ₦30 million for his release.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer in Amedokhian mobilised a joint rescue team comprising police personnel, military operatives, local hunters, and members of the Edo State Security Corps.

The team launched a coordinated search operation across surrounding forests.
During the operation, security personnel discovered the victim’s abandoned motorcycle and personal belongings along a bush path, which provided vital clues that led them deeper into the kidnappers’ hideout.
On sighting the advancing operatives, the suspects fled into the forest, abandoning the victim. He was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with his family.
Security agencies have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, with ongoing bush-combing operations in the area.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities, urging the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
