
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old security guard, Ndifreke Godwin, over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Calabar.
The incident reportedly occurred along Tinapa Road and was reported to the police by the girl’s mother on Friday, August 29, 2026.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, preliminary investigations showed that the suspect allegedly lured the minor to his residence under the pretext of giving her money.
The police said the suspect was promptly arrested following the report and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The victim was also issued a medical form for examination and necessary treatment.

Eitokpah said the command would ensure due process in handling the case, adding that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The police spokesperson urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving children to security agencies.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting minors and ensuring that allegations of abuse are thoroughly investigated.
