The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, identified simply as Godwin, over allegations that he sexually abused two underage girls in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was taken into custody on Monday by officers from the Eleme Police Division after the parents of the girls, aged 13 and 11, reported the alleged incidents to the police.
According to the father of the 13-year-old girl, the suspect allegedly lured the children by sending them on errands before inviting them into his room when they returned.
He claimed the man would then lock the door, play loud music, and allegedly assault the girls. The father further alleged that the suspect threatened the children with severe consequences if they disclosed the incidents to anyone.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Blessing Agabe, said the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.

Agabe explained that the police had issued medical examination forms to the families of the girls, noting that investigators were awaiting the medical reports, which are expected to help determine the next course of action.
She stated that the results would indicate whether there was evidence to support the allegations, adding that if necessary, the matter would be transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further handling.
The police spokesperson stressed that the investigation is still ongoing and urged the public to allow due process to take its course before any conclusions are reached.
