A power surge has reportedly triggered a fire outbreak that destroyed parts of a duplex, a boys’ quarters apartment, household belongings and a shuttle bus in Anambra State.
The incident occurred around 6:00pm on Saturday, September 5, 2026, near Mopol Base Junction along the Old Amansea-Awka Road.
The fire reportedly started in one of the apartments before spreading rapidly to adjoining sections of the building and eventually engulfing the shuttle bus parked within the premises.
The inferno caused extensive damage estimated at several millions of naira, affecting roofing materials, furniture, sections of the walls and other parts of the property.
Personnel of the Anambra State Fire Service responded to a distress call received at about 6:30pm and deployed firefighting equipment to the scene.

According to the Head of the Fire Service’s Media and Publicity Unit, Chukwudi Chiketa, firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.
Fortunately, no life was lost and no injury was recorded during the incident.
The firefighters eventually secured the area after extinguishing the fire and withdrew from the scene at about 7:30pm.
The state fire service urged residents to report emergencies promptly, stressing that early intervention can help prevent fire incidents from escalating and causing more extensive damage to lives and property.
