
The Benue State Police Command has rescued nine passengers who were abducted along the Ankpenchi–Ogobia Road in Ohimini Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were among 13 passengers reportedly kidnapped after armed men intercepted a commercial bus around 11pm on September 13, 2026.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, police operatives and tactical teams launched a search-and-rescue operation following the incident.

The operation reached a breakthrough on Friday, September 18, when security personnel stormed the suspected kidnappers’ camp in Amla Forest, leading to a gun battle.
Eight of the remaining victims were rescued during the operation. However, police said one victim had sustained fatal injuries while in captivity and later died in another part of the forest.
The rescued victims are currently receiving necessary attention, while security operatives continue efforts to arrest the fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate and recover the deceased victim’s remains.
