The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed allegations surrounding the unlawful detention of a teenage girl in Arandun community, Irepodun Local Government Area, describing the reports as misleading and inaccurate.
This follows widespread outrage triggered by viral videos on social media showing the minor at a police station, with some residents staging protests and accusing the police of detaining the girl “by proxy.”
In an official statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, clarified that the incident originated from a housebreaking and theft case reported on April 30, 2026.
According to the police, the prime suspect, a 19-year-old identified as Timothy Aransiola, fled after the incident and had already been on the division’s watchlist. Subsequent intelligence allegedly revealed that his 16-year-old sister, Esther Aransiola, was assisting him in evading arrest.

Authorities further explained that due process was followed during her brief detention. She was cautioned, her statement was obtained, and she was later released to her guardian on bail.
The command emphasized that the narrative circulating online was false and capable of misleading the public, urging citizens to avoid spreading unverified information that could incite tension.
Police authorities also reiterated their commitment to upholding the rule of law while ensuring the protection of citizens’ rights, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
