
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old bus driver, Christopher Akpabio, and the theft of his vehicle in Asarama community, Andoni Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects reportedly hired the driver from the Garrison area in Port Harcourt, claiming they were travelling to Asarama for a traditional marriage ceremony.
However, during the trip, the suspects allegedly attacked and killed the driver, buried his body in a shallow grave, and made away with his mini-bus.
According to the police, the case was reported on May 22, 2026, after the victim went missing. This led to an intelligence-driven investigation by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit.
Following sustained surveillance and coordinated operations, operatives arrested three suspects on May 28, 2026, while also recovering the stolen black Daihatsu Hijet minibus.

Further investigation later led police to the shallow grave where the victim’s remains were discovered in Asarama community. The body has been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspects have been identified as David Mark, Nkajit Williams, and Godgift John, all residents of Rivers State. A fourth suspect is still at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant when engaging unfamiliar persons for transportation, especially for long-distance journeys, and to always inform relatives before travelling.
The Command assured residents of its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining security across the state.
