
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully thwarted a suspected abduction attempt along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, rescuing the victim unhurt and restoring calm to the area.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m. in the Onigaari axis of the busy expressway.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers attached to the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team were on routine patrol when they heard gunshots from the area.
He explained that the swift and tactical response of the officers forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon their operation and flee into the surrounding bush.
“The operatives immediately responded after hearing gunshots. Their swift intervention forced the suspects to abandon the victim and escape,” Babaseyi stated.
The rescued victim, who was unharmed, was subsequently escorted alongside his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary procedures.

Police authorities confirmed that normalcy has since been restored in the area, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Reacting to the development, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism, courage, and vigilance.
He noted that the successful operation reflects the Command’s improved operational capacity and readiness to respond swiftly to security threats.
Ojajuni reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining security across the state, emphasizing the importance of intelligence gathering, strategic patrols, and coordinated operations.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies, assuring that all credible reports would be promptly acted upon.
