The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed claims that its officers shot a motorcyclist at Oyun Bridge in Ilorin, saying the incident involved the rider knocking down a police officer during a routine stop-and-search operation.
According to the command, 23-year-old motorcyclist Abdurasaq Lukman was riding at high speed when he knocked down Corporal Saka Azeez, who was on duty at the location.
The police said the impact left Corporal Azeez with serious head injuries and a fracture, while Lukman sustained minor injuries. Both were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Lukman was later treated and discharged but remains in police custody to assist with investigations, while Corporal Azeez is still receiving medical care and is expected to undergo further examinations and scans.
The clarification followed a viral video on social media that suggested the motorcyclist had been shot by the police.
The command urged the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports, warning that misinformation could create unnecessary tension and misunderstanding.
